After an intense email debate over the past few days most of the people in my family are thinking of leaving the Titans fan club. Me included. When the Titans moved to Tennessee in 1997 people in my family did one of two things- they jumped on the Titans ship or they stayed with the team they had supported before the Titans arrived. My mom, my aunt Elaine, and my Uncle Rick all left their respective teams (Cowboys for mom and Elaine. Chiefs for Rick). A few cousins left their teams for the Titans as well including my cousin Lanny who then returned to his Steelers earlier this year, and my cousin Ken, a military man, who loved Dallas. I was a rare bird in the family. I liked the NFL but College Football is where my heart is so I never had a specific team before the Titans. Me, my cousins Rashad W., Ahmir, Stephen, Ronda and Mikel all became fans of the Titans with no prior team. After the dismissal of Vince Young, Jeff Fisher leaving, then the hiring of a Jeff Fisher coach, my family seems to have reached their level of understanding with the Titans organization. Many of my cousins did NOT leave their teams when the Titans arrived. My cousins Les and Rendell and Uncle Mike stayed with the Cowboys. My aunt Shirl and cousins Leon, Rashad S. , and Toron stayed with the Redskins. In Rashad S. and Toron's defense they are from Maryland. My cousin Russell is somehow a Green Bay fan. His brother Rodney is a Miami fan along with my cousin Garland. So family dinners are always full of trash talking especially from the Cowboys fans.
Now the members of my family who put their faith in the Titans are ready to bolt. We haven't been to the Super Bowl since I was in college. I'm over it. For the next 31 days I am going to to go through each NFL team and decide if it's the right team for me. I'll start out west with the AFC West tomorrow. I'm looking at YOU Phillip Rivers.
lmaooooo this is why I have TWO teams...and so what if they're in the same division. I was born and raised in Buffalo so the Bills are my #1 team...think of an arranged marriage.
ReplyDeleteBut I cheat on them with my sidekick...the Jets. I loved them since the days of Bill Parcells and Curtis Martin.
When they play each other, I sit back and watch..whoever wins, gets my loving that day. LMAOOO Don't laugh, it works!
I agree with PLL...I have my home team (Philly) and I have a mistress team (also the Jets). It's the only sane way to be a fan of football anymore. LOL
ReplyDeleteSame here! My #1 teams is the Saints (the first NFL city I lived in) and a close second is the Ravens (lived in Baltimore 4 years after graduating from law school in New Orleans). I'm from the Tennessee Valley so I would love to see the Titans get it together, but I don't actively root for them. Since leaving Baltimore, I've lived in Atlanta and Charlotte, but liking either of those teams would be a direct conflict of loyalty to my Saints.
ReplyDeleteThis is a debate that I have been having in my mind all of last offseason. The Carolina Panthers are my favorite (what can I say...I'm in love with Steve Smith, lol). Ever since Jake Delhomme threw all those interceptions in the NFC Divisional back in 2008....the team has been in total chaos. This season plus the new coach hire has me livid!! I am anxious to see how you are picking a new team. I don't even know how to begin!
ReplyDeleteI only just started following football this past season. I said I would wait until the off-season to choose my team but now that it's here I still have no idea which team to pick so this series will be a big help.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see which team you choose!
