I am on a quest to find a new NFL team. I'm going team by team to find out which team is the best fit for me. Up first is the AFC West.
There are so many reasons for me to LOVE the Chiefs. I went to Riverdale High School in Tennessee. We have the same colors as the Chiefs. They have one of my favorite former VOL all-star on the roster, Eric Berry. They also have 19 SEC players on their roster including Glenn Dorsey, Javier Arenas, Dustin Colquitt (another VOL), Dexter McCluster, and Dwayne Bowe. I love watching this team play. They have a great defense and they play in the not so defensively sound AFC West. They look to be a team of the future. They're even solid in the front office. For the third time in his career, Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli has been named NFL Executive of the Year by the Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers of America (PFW/PFWA). My Titans brass has not won such an honor. I also like their fans. A former co-worker of mine is the most calm and fun fan around and I also have pals on Twitter who are Chiefs fans who don't claim to be more or less than what their team is. (I'm looking at you Cowboys fans). They also got rid of Charlie Weis and I don't really DO Charlie Weis so that's another plus. My main concern is Matt Cassel. (gulp) Cassel seems to struggle when the Chiefs fall behind. I saw that in Tennessee. Lived it. Don't need it again. However, with that being the ONLY drawback to the Chiefs they are WINNING in the AFC WEST for my affection.
After going through all four teams in the AFC West I think it's clear the Chiefs are the team for me. They have SEC players up and down the roster, a great front office, and a QB that could improve. I'm sold with this team in this division.
Tomorrow I turn to the NFC West. This might be four of the shortest posts I've ever written. I don't see anything good about the Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals, and I HATE THE RAMS. But I will try. Stay tuned as I start with the Seattle Seahawks.
